A Reddit user said one of the scariest things he had dealt with in the woods was not an animal at all. In the thread, he wrote that a trespasser came onto the property while he was already in his stand at about 7:30 in the morning. According to the comment, the man walked right up to the creek near the stand, set up a chair, sat down, and cracked open a beer. The hunter said the guy was only about 20 yards away, and from the sound of it, the trespasser had no clue anyone was above him watching the whole thing.
The hunter wrote that he stayed put for a while, probably trying to decide how to handle it without turning the whole thing into something worse. He was already in position, and now there was a man sitting almost directly under him on the same property, drinking a beer in the morning and acting like the place was his. When the hunter finally climbed down, the trespasser looked shocked and blurted out, “OH shit dude! I’m sorry! I didn’t know you were hunting…” Then, according to the comment, the guy immediately started trying to smooth things over.
That was the whole story as he told it. He was in his stand at sunrise, a trespasser came in close enough to sit within about 20 yards of him, opened a beer, and only realized someone was there when the hunter finally came down. The moment clearly stuck with him because it was one of those situations where the danger was not some dramatic attack. It was the fact that an unknown man had walked in that close while he was hunting, settled in by the creek, and had no idea anyone was above him.
What do you think — if a trespasser sat down 20 yards from your stand and started drinking a beer without knowing you were there, would you come down right away, or wait him out first?
