A concealed carrier on Reddit said he was stopping for gas near his house one night when a quick errand turned into the kind of situation that can go bad in a hurry. In the thread, he explained that it was around 9 p.m. and he had pulled into the only pump at a small rural gas station. While he was there, a van came in behind him and three men got out. From the start, he said they were hostile. They began yelling that he was using “their” pump, even though he was already there and nearly finished.

He said one of the men started coming toward him while the others stayed closer to the van. The whole thing felt wrong right away. According to his comment, the man got to about 15 feet away and kept pressing the issue, acting like the pump somehow belonged to them. The Reddit poster told him he was almost done and said he needed to get back in the van. Instead of backing off, the man pulled out a knife. That was the moment the encounter changed from loud, stupid aggression into something much more serious.

The poster said he drew his gun, got on target, and started giving loud commands. He did not describe any long standoff after that. Once the gun came out, the tone shifted immediately. The men ran back to the van and started scrambling to leave. He said the whole thing happened fast, with the threat disappearing almost as quickly as it had formed.

Then the store clerk came outside with a gun of his own and started yelling at the van as it backed out and took off. After that, the clerk called the police. The Reddit poster said he was thankful it ended there and that nobody got hurt. From the way he told it, he knew the moment could have gone in a much worse direction if the man with the knife had kept closing distance instead of turning and running once he saw the gun.

He said afterward he was glad he had enough training to react without freezing, because the whole thing started over something as dumb as a gas pump and nearly turned into a knife attack in a dark rural parking lot. One minute he was finishing up at the pump near home, and the next he was drawing on a man who had walked up yelling and then pulled a blade. What would you have done in that situation?
