A Reddit user said the encounter happened while he was walking back through a parking lot at night. He wrote that he first noticed something was off by watching reflections in the parked cars. According to the post, he could see a man behind him and started to realize the guy was following him instead of just walking the same direction. He said he picked up his pace and kept moving, hoping to get where he was going without having to stop and deal with it.
But as he got closer to the street, he said the man behind him sounded closer too. He wrote that he could hear him making more noise and breathing harder, which made him think the gap was closing fast. When he finally turned around, he said the man was only about seven feet behind him and was already about to swing one of those cigarette-disposal posts filled with sand, the kind you see outside buildings and businesses. That was the moment he said he drew.
From the way he told it, there was no long confrontation leading up to that point. He was walking, noticed he was being followed, picked up speed, turned around, and suddenly saw a man practically on top of him with a heavy metal post raised up. He said this was the first time he had ever drawn his gun, and the whole thing happened quickly enough that there was not much room for anything else once he saw what was in the man’s hands.
The story he posted was short and direct. He did not write it like someone trying to make himself sound tough. He wrote it like somebody still trying to process how fast the distance disappeared and how close he came to getting hit in the head. He was walking through a parking lot, realized someone was following him, and by the time he turned around, the man was already in striking range with a heavy object raised.
What do you think — if you realized someone was following you through a parking lot and turned around to see him that close with a heavy post in his hands, would you have done the same thing?
