A Reddit user said he was driving at night when he noticed another vehicle behind him that did not feel right. According to the post, the car kept hanging on him long enough that he started watching it closely, and at one point he could see that one of the men in the back appeared to have something sitting in his lap. Instead of going straight where he had planned, he slowed way down for a right turn that would take him into a town where, he said, a sheriff’s deputy was almost always parked.

He wrote that the other vehicle reacted immediately. As he slowed for the turn, the car behind him shot hard to the right, stopped in the road, and blocked the turn. Then the back door opened. From the way he told it, that was the moment the whole thing changed from a creepy tail into something more direct. He was no longer guessing whether the people behind him were following on purpose. They had cut across the road, blocked his path, and opened the rear door while he was still sitting in the driver’s seat.

The post described it as the point where he drew. He did not tell it like some long standoff with a lot of shouting. He told it like a situation that tightened up all at once: a suspicious car behind him, a turn toward the one place he thought might discourage trouble, the car suddenly cutting across the road, and a door opening before he had room to do much else.

That was the story as he told it in the thread. He was driving, realized a car full of men was behaving strangely behind him, tried to head toward a place where law enforcement was usually visible, and instead watched them block the turn and open the back door. The gun came out at that point, before the situation could get any closer.

What do you think — once a car cuts across the road and blocks your turn while a rear door swings open, are you still trying to figure out what they want, or already treating it like a real threat?
