A Reddit user said he and his wife were out at night when two men suddenly started closing on them on foot. In his comment on the thread, he wrote that the whole thing moved fast enough that there was not much time to sort out intentions once the pair realized the men were not just walking past them. He said he started drawing his pistol and got it about halfway out while yelling at them to get back.

According to the post, that was enough to stop it. He said the two men immediately bolted instead of continuing toward them. The couple called police, and officers showed up shortly after to take the report. At that point, it still could have ended as one more ugly encounter with no real explanation, but then the call came in that changed the picture. While police were there taking their statement, the officers got word that a man had been assaulted down the street and his car had been stolen.

The Reddit user said police ended up catching one of the suspects, and he and his wife were taken to the station to identify him. He also wrote that they got a protection order afterward. From the way he told it, that part hit hard, because it meant the two men who had rushed them had apparently gone on to attack someone else once they fled. What he first experienced as a fast, frightening encounter with two men charging in the dark turned out to be tied to a more serious crime unfolding nearby at nearly the same time.

He did not describe the event like a dramatic standoff or some long confrontation with a lot of words exchanged. The whole thing, from his telling, came down to a split-second decision. Two men rushed in, he started drawing while shouting at them to back off, and they ran. Only later, once police were involved, did he learn the night had gotten much worse for somebody else down the street.

What do you think — if two men rushed you and your spouse after dark, would half-drawing and shouting be your first move too, or would you already be thinking there might not be time for warnings?
