A handgun does not earn a legendary reliability reputation because of one good range trip. It happens after thousands of owners carry them, train with them, abuse them, neglect them, and keep discovering that the gun still works.
Some pistols became famous because of military contracts. Others earned their reputation quietly through police departments, competitive shooters, and everyday carriers who simply needed something that would function every time. These are the handguns that built trust over years of real use. They may not all be the newest designs, but their track records are exactly why people still seek them out.
Glock 17
The Glock 17 is one of the easiest choices on this list because it became the benchmark many modern striker-fired pistols are still measured against.
